ESCHASSE. s. f. Il n'a guere d'usage qu'au pluriel, Eschasses, & il se dit de deux longs bastons à chacun desquels il y a une espece d'estrier attaché, où l'on met les pieds, soit pour marcher dans des marais comme font les pastres dans le Poictou & autres lieux, soit pour paroistre plus grand & divertir le peuple comme font les basteleurs. Monté sur des eschasses. prendre des eschasses.
On dit prov. & fig. d'Un homme qui a l'esprit guindé, & qui veut tousjours parler d'une maniere élevée, qu'Il est tousjours monté sur des eschasses.
